Description of Department of Communication Science

Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Mercu Buana, was established in 1994, with the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number: 071/D/ O /1994 concerning the establishment and operation of the Department of Communication Science, Universitas Mercu Buana. At the beginning of its establishment, Department of Communication Science had three concentrations, namely Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising. While the Journalism major was developed into Broadcasting major, and Advertising major was developed into Advertising and Marketing Communication. Since the 1997/1998 Academic Year the status of the study program then changed to the accreditation system carried out by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). After conducting the accreditation process with reference to the BAN-PT Decree No. 001 / BAN-PT / AK 1 / VIII / 1998 dated 11 August 1998, then BAN-PT issued Decree No. 008 / BAN-PT / AK-IV / VI / 2000 which stated that the Department of Communication Science obtained “B” accreditation grade. In 2005, Department of Communication Science, Universitas Mercu Buana had successfully improved the accreditation level into “A” grade, through Decree No. BAN. 07932 / AK-IX-S1-012 / UMDILM / VII / 2005. The success was the result of hard work of all academic and supporting members who consistently carried out their duties and responsibilities well.

 

Along with technological developments, especially in the field of information and communication, as well as the demands of industry and society nationally and globally, then in 2006 the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Mercu Buana developed a major in the field of communication science, which included Broadcasting, Public Relations, as well as Advertising and Marketing Communication.
